The application of Description Logics (DL) to natural language processing (DL) is one of the most promising approaches to many linguistic problems. However, when dealing with real-world language fragments, performance problems appear due to the rapidly increasing size of the domain models. This paper reports on DL optimization efforts done within the context of a particular NLP project. It also describes the parameters that were used to adapt the system behavior to this particular application and it briefly explains how these parameters have to be changed to adapt the system to applications with different profiles.
